Choral Arts Class: The Monroe Consort

The MONROE CONSORT is the School’s choral arts program.  It is an SATB chamber chorale concentrated on learning and performing a classical choral repertoire.  Participants are instructed in proper singing technique and principles of performing classical choral music.  Sessions are on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 7:40.  The Consort is the chorus for all productions of the Monroe Area Opera.  In addition they have one full costumed concert which is just the Consort.  The Consort has performed at local arts events as well as at holiday arts events in Knoxville.  In December 2008 the Consort gave 4 performances of Handel’s “Messiah” in 18th century dress.  Rehearsals are currently underway for their performance of Mozart’s “Requiem in D-minor” K.626 scheduled for February 2010.  Ages range from 15-60+.
